The Food I Bought With My EBT Card Was Destroyed. Can I Get Help?

It depends. If  the food was destroyed because of a household misfortune or disaster, you may be eligible for additional benefits to replace what was lost. 

What Is a "HouseHold Misfortune or Disaster?"

Some examples include:

  • Fire
  • Flood
  • Fridge or Freezer not working because of a power outage

What Benefits Can I Get?

You can get up to one month of benefits replaced.

  

How Do I Ask For Benefits?  

You will need to contact your caseworker.  They will have you put a dollar value on the food items that you lost. They may ask you to show proof of the misfortune or disaster. Or they may get proof from another source.
