Description of Services

Homeword offers a nationally certified first-time homebuyer course that provides a comprehensive overview of the homebuying process and teaches participants the benefits and responsibilities of homeownership. Additionally, Homeword offers free one-on-one pre-purchase homebuyer counseling to assist clients in identifying and overcoming obstacles to homeownership. Counselors work with clients to find budgeting issues, set savings goals, analyze credit, identify financing assistance programs and evaluate loan scenarios.

The primary goal of our financial skill building programs is to teach people the basic financial management skills required to be self-sufficient and independent. Topics include creating a budget that works for you, saving for future goals and emergencies, managing/rebuilding your credit, avoiding financial pitfalls and consumer traps, and understanding taxes and insurance.

The renter education program focuses on helping those who have barriers to obtaining rental homes, such as poor credit, poor rental history and criminal records. The workshop location rotates to various partner organizations in Missoula.

Homeword also develops homes that Montanans can afford and has built in 12 Montana communities so far.
